Based on the Favoritextremisterna projects — or ‘favourite-extremists’ — this conversation is about alliances, solidarity and who is labelled extremist today. One year after the Burka Songs debate, Hanna Högstedt is working on a new film in collaboration with Maimuna Abdullahi and Fatima Doubakil: Favoritextremisterna.

In March 2018, a planned screening and following discussion of Högstedt’s film Burka Songs 2.0 was cancelled by Gothenburg City Council. Favoritextremisterna begins by exploring stories behind this cancellation. The film doesn’t stop here, however, moving forward to examine the very processes behind the designation of certain people as extremists and how we ourselves can relate to these processes. As part of our work with Favoritextremisterna, we want to create a space for discussion in the city, a space where such issues can be raised and a space where more stories and perspectives can emerge. We will also show clips from the upcoming film.

SAQMI – The Swedish Archive for Queer Moving Images – is working in collaboration with The Museum of World Culture.

Welcome to an inspiring day of lectures, talks and the meeting between now and then! West Pride will mark the 50^th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising with a whole day of queer history, activism and a programme focussed on trans issues and racism. This day is a tribute to all activists who have paved the way for the LGBTQ+ movement ever since the uprising.

The Stonewall Uprising started in June 1969 in New York. Suspecting that it was violating alcohol laws, police attempted to raid the Stonewall Inn gay bar. This was not the first time the police had intimidated gay clubs or their patrons in the USA at the time. This raid, however, sparked a series of violent demonstrations against the police and their treatment of transpeople, drag queens and the LGBTQ+ community. The uprising spread quickly across the LGBTQ+ community in Greenwich village and is considered a turning point in the history of LGBTQ+ activism. Today this uprising and the attitudinal shift that followed is known as Stonewall.

Ett samtal utifrån projektet Favoritextremisterna om vem som kallas extremist idag, om allianser och solidaritet. Ett år efter Burka Songs-debatten arbetar Hanna Högstedt, i samarbete med Maimuna Abdullahi och Fatima Doubakil, på ett nytt filmprojekt: Favoritextremisterna.

Det tar avstamp i det som hände runt den inställda visningen, men stannar inte där utan undersöker själva processen bakom att vissa personer pekas ut som extremister, och hur vi på olika sätt kan förhålla oss till det. Som en del i arbetet med Favoritextremisterna vill vi skapa rum för samtal i staden, där dessa frågor kan lyftas, och fler berättelser och perspektiv komma fram. Vi kommer även att visa klipp från arbetet med filmen.

West Pride uppmärksammar att det gått 50 år sedan Stonewallupproret med en heldag av queerhistoria, aktivism och program kring transfrågor och rasism. Temadagen är en hyllning till alla aktivister som ända sedan upproret banat väg för hbtq+ rörelsen.

Stonewallupproret tog sin början juni 1969 i New York då polisen anlände för att utföra en razzia på gaybaren Stonewall Inn, då de sade sig misstänka brott mot alkohollagen. Detta var inte första gången polisen trakasserade gayklubbar i USA på den tiden, och denna händelse blev starten av en serie våldsamma demonstrationer mot polisrazzior som drabbade transpersoner, drag queens och hbtq+ communityt. Upproret spreds snart till större delar av gayrörelsen i Greenwich Village och bär idag namnet Stonewall Riots.
